Temporary CCTV: how fast it goes live, and what it costs
Published 27 October 2026
Temporary CCTV is for a site that only needs watching for a while — a build, a cleared plot, an event car park, a compound between tenants. The point is that it arrives fast, records from day one, and leaves when the job is done. Here is what that actually involves, and what it costs.
What "temporary CCTV" really means
Most people searching for temporary CCTV are not after a cheaper fixed system. They have a site with no permanent power, no broadband, and no wall worth drilling into — and a window of a few weeks or a few months where things could walk off it overnight. A redeployable CCTV tower is built for exactly that: a mast, several cameras, solar and battery, and a 4G connection, all on one trailer that can be dropped and recovered without groundworks.
That is the difference from a traditional install. Nothing is cabled in. Nothing is left behind. When the compound moves, the cameras move with it.
How fast can it actually be live?
For a standard deployment in Hampshire and the South, the honest answer is usually within 48 hours of agreeing a quote, and often sooner. There is no electrician, no broadband install and no scaffold — the tower is towed in, positioned, powered up and the cameras are aimed and tested on the same visit. If a site is at genuine risk tonight, tell us; the limiting factor is logistics, not installation.
Compare that to a fixed system: survey, cabling, a power feed, a network, commissioning. For a short-term site that is weeks of lead time to protect something you only needed covered for a month.
What temporary CCTV costs
Temporary CCTV is priced by the week, not as a capital install. What moves the number is what the tower carries and how it is watched:
- The platform — a compact single-camera deterrent costs less than a full solar, multi-camera tower with analytics.
- Power — a solar/battery tower for a site with no mains is specified differently to a mains-backed one.
- Monitoring — self-managed alerts are included; professional 24/7 monitoring is a separate add-on, so you only pay for a control room if you want one.
- Hire length — there is no minimum hire with Sentryva, so a two-week job is costed as two weeks.
We keep the full breakdown on the hire and pricing page, and there is a dedicated write-up on how much CCTV tower hire costs if you want the numbers before you call.
When temporary CCTV is the right call
It is the right call when the site is short-lived or changing: a construction phase, a vacant or void property between uses, an industrial yard with seasonal stock, an event or temporary car park, or a remote compound with no infrastructure. In every one of those, a permanent install is either impossible or a waste — you would be paying to cable up a site you are about to hand back.
If the building is finished, powered and staying put, fixed CCTV is the better long-term answer. We will tell you that rather than hire you a tower you do not need.
Temporary does not mean basic
A tower is not a weaker product than a fixed camera — in practice it is usually a stronger one for an open site. Height gives you coverage a wall-mounted dome cannot. Solar means it keeps recording when the generator would have been stolen. Human and vehicle analytics cut the false alerts that make people stop checking. And a visible mast on the skyline does deterrent work a hidden camera never will.
